Solutions > Storage Compliance
Storage area network (SAN) compliance requirements are ultimately driven by internal corporate compliance standards. In their most simplified forms, most internal storage compliance audits require that the storage teams are able to show:
- At the infrastructure level that only authorized servers can see specific file system data
- Adherence to a rigid change control system
The first requirement is intended to prove over time that no malicious servers were able to access restricted application data that resides on the SAN. The second requirement is designed to provide an operating environment where malicious or otherwise abnormal changes to the SAN would be detected shortly after implementation.
SANscreen supports both these requirements. For access path monitoring, SANscreen constantly monitors the access paths between a server and application data. Unlike an SRM system that uses agents installed on the server to accomplish this monitoring, SANscreen monitors all access paths without the use of agents on servers. Hence, a malicious server that was added to the SAN without agent software would be quickly detected with SANscreen.
To support the second compliance requirement, SANscreen provides the industry’s leading change management solution. Prior to making a change, SANscreen simulates the impact of change on the applications served by the SAN. During the change, all actions are verified to have been completed correctly. Then, on an ongoing basis, SANscreen monitors the SAN for any change that occurs and reports back on the impact of that change on an application.
