Onaro Extends BMC Service Automation to Networked Storage
Customers Can Now Integrate Storage into Balance of IT Operations
BMC USERWORLD AMERICAS, Vancouver, B.C. -- October 29, 2007 -- BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) today announced that Onaro, the leader in datacenter automation for storage, has completed the integration of Onaro’s storage service management (SSM) solutions with BMC Service Automation, an extension of the BMC Business Service Management approach to optimizing IT’s responsiveness to business needs.
“We are very pleased to be partnering with BMC in its mission to extend BSM and Service Automation to storage” said Assaf Levy, Onaro’s chief technology officer. “BMC’s rich solution architecture combined with our offerings provides customers with the best possible integration points to bring storage management into the main data center operations environment.”
The integration will extend BMC Business Service Management and Service Automation solutions to multi-vendor networked storage infrastructures. Joint customers will realize significantly reduced operational costs and improved service response times.
Networked storage currently represents up to 35 percent of the data center infrastructure budget. As storage spending continues to grow, there is increased pressure to align storage service delivery costs with business requirements. In addition, networked storage has become a critical component of application service delivery and datacenter virtualization initiatives.
The Onaro integration will be across key areas including:
- BMC Service Automation – Integration with BMC Service Automation to extend service automation across networked storage.
- BMC Change and Configuration Management – Integration with BMC Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and BMC Change Management System to extend visibility across storage services and networked storage assets.
- BMC IT Service Management – Integration with BMC Service and Event Management Systems to extend service level violations and alerts across the networked storage infrastructure.
- BMC Performance Management – Integration with BMC Performance Manager to extend application performance monitoring across the networked storage infrastructure.
“As storage spending continues to increase as a percentage of overall data center spend and virtualization technologies move into production, storage operations must be integrated into the balance of IT operations “ said Dave Russell, Research Vice President, Gartner. “Only through this integration will organizations dramatically improve overall IT costs and service levels.”
“Working together, BMC and Onaro extend Service Automation value to include increasingly critical storage resources,” said Kia Behnia, BMC’s Chief Corporate Architect. “Their service-centric approach combined with their experience managing some of the largest networked storage environments in the world is an ideal fit and will be of great benefit to our customers. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Onaro to further extend the integration of our offerings.”
Onaro will be demonstrating their integrated storage automation and management offerings at BMC UserWorld Americas, October 30 – November 1, in Vancouver, British Columbia
