Onaro and Cisco Collaborate to Meet Customer Demand for Managing Change and Growth in Storage Networks
Onaro’s SANscreen to Deliver Change Management Support for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family of SAN Switches
BOSTON - Onaro, Inc., Onaro, Inc., the pioneer of Change Management software for storage networks, announced today its flagship product, SANscreen®, supports the Cisco MDS 9000 Family of Multilayer Intelligent directors and fabric switches. The integration of Onaro’s SANscreen Predictive Change Management software with the Cisco MDS 9000 offers enterprise customers the combined benefits of Cisco’s award-winning storage networking technology and Onaro’s risk-free solution to manage change, scale, migrate, and consolidate storage area networks (SANs).
Broad technical cooperation between the two companies helps ensure interoperability and road-map alignment between Onaro’s SANscreen and the Cisco MDS 9000. This cooperation helps enable SANscreen take advantage of advanced Cisco technology, including Virtual SANs (VSANs), to help storage administrators build highly scalable, reliable and efficient SANs. SANscreen automates the change management process, replacing error-prone manual methods and spreadsheets. SANscreen integrates easily into Cisco MDS 9000 fabrics by being non-intrusive (agent-less, out of the data path and read only), helping further reduce SAN management complexity.
"Simplifying SAN management is integral to reducing the total cost of owning storage resources,” said Ed Chapman, senior director of product management for the Cisco MDS 9000. "The combination of the Cisco MDS 9000 and the Onaro SANScreen software forms a powerful solution for applications such as SAN consolidation, business continuity and utility computing."
According to industry estimates, 80 percent of all SAN problems result from changes. SANscreen predicts the impact of SAN changes prior to implementation, troubleshoots problems and continuously monitors the health of storage networks throughout growth, migrations and consolidations. It enables companies to manage and scale SANs confidently, and at the speed of business, with reduced risk of interruption. SANscreen’s deterministic root-cause analysis identifies and fixes violations that stray from policies, preventing errors and vulnerabilities.
Ray Paquet, vice president at industry analyst firm Gartner Inc., said, "Storage management technology that provides proactive impact analysis of SAN changes and advice on addressing these changes helps to eliminate storage downtime while improving staff productivity." Gartner also states that deterministic root-cause analysis is “the Holy Grail of the IT industry."
"We are seeing broad customer acceptance of the Cisco MDS 9000," said Tom Riddle, Onaro’s vice president of Business Development. "Our customers are embracing the value of VSAN and other advanced Cisco features and want to manage change and growth of Cisco MDS 9000-based SANs with SANscreen."
