Onaro's SANscreen® Wins 2005 Network Storage Conference Award

Latest in Series of Major Awards Confirms SANscreen as the Storage Industry's Leading SAN Monitoring & Change Management Solution

BOSTON, March 21 /PRNewswire/2005 – Onaro, Inc., the pioneer of Change Management software for storage networks, announced today that SANscreen® has been recognized as best in show in Storage Area Network Management Software at the 2005 Network Storage Conference. Onaro's SANscreen Monitoring and Predictive Change Management software is used by the world's leading corporations to manage change and growth in their increasingly complex SANs. SANscreen's selection as best in show is the latest in a series of major industry honors that strengthens Onaro's dominant position in the SAN Management market.

"SANscreen is the only solution capable of day-to-day monitoring and troubleshooting our SAN, and also planning, managing and validating our SAN before, during and after changes. This allows us to continuously ensure the health of this environment and to keep pace with business requirements," said Robert Shinn, a principal at State Street Global Advisors, the world's largest institutional asset-management company with $1.4 trillion in assets. "As the size and complexity of our storage network environment grows, it is crucial that we maintain the highest levels of IT performance and application uptime to support the business, deliver greater value to shareholders and bring greater return on our clients' investments."

The Network Storage Conference awards were judged by a panel of experts from IBM, Sun Microsystems, Computer Technology Review, Mesabi Group and Peripheral Concepts. The award comes on the heels of other recent major industry accolades for Onaro, which include the 2004 Product of the Year for Storage Management by Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com, Top Ten Private Companies in the Winter 2004 by Byte & Switch, and a 2004 InfoWorld 100 award for State Street Global Advisors' (SSgA) application of SANscreen.

"Unlike earlier storage management products, SANscreen automates the SAN change management processes, which is critically important since the majority of problems and application disruptions are caused today by manual changes," said Farid Neema, founder of the Network Storage Conference and president of Peripheral Concepts, Inc. "The enthusiastic feedback we received from users we interviewed strengthened the assessment of the product."

SANscreen continuously monitors the SAN, quickly troubleshoots problems, predicts the impact of planned changes before implementation and validates the condition of a SAN throughout changes, migrations and consolidations. Key features include:

  • Dependency Mapping provides unprecedented visibility and understanding of all end-to-end SAN access paths, their physical and logical characteristics and inter-dependencies.
  • Root Cause Analysis reduces problem isolation time to minutes from hours and days.
  • Policy Validation proactively identifies and recommends fixes for violations that stray from policies and best practices, exposing potentially fatal errors and vulnerabilities.
  • Process Automation accelerates change management, simulates the impact of changes, and automatically validates the changes against the plan.

"SANscreen enables corporations to mature the storage management process from today's often chaotic and reactive state to proactive through Change Process Automation, eliminating SAN outages and ensuring application availability," said Andrew Bird, Onaro's vice president of marketing. "This award is further acknowledgement that SANscreen is 'Must Have' technology."
