Onaro Expands Storage Service Management Suite with Delivery of SANscreen Application Insight, SANscreen Replication Assurance and Version 3 of SANscreen Foundation

SANscreen Replication Assurance, Application Insight, and Foundation Deliver Industry’s First Complete Enterprise Solution for Service View and Management of Storage Environments

BOSTON, MA – March 13, 2006 – Onaro, Inc. today announced shipment of SANscreen Application Insight, SANscreen Replication Assurance and version 3 of SANscreen Foundation. SANscreen Application Insight provides visibility into SAN performance from an end-to-end, application to data perspective. SANscreen Replication Assurance moves Onaro closer to delivering a full Recovery Point Objective (RPO) dashboard for CIOs. Version 3 of SANscreen Foundation features improvements to the core Service Intelligence Engine (SIE) and analytics reporting package. All of these new products and enhancements are designed to provide customers with unmatched storage service management (SSM) capabilities that are the foundation for improved service quality, ROI, and compliance.

“SANscreen’s capabilities of detecting violations in our storage area network environment and providing detailed, full-impact notification is very important to us,” said Mike Crocker, vice president of storage area management, Countrywide Financial Corporation.  “This information assists us in preventing incidents; rapidly correct any violations, and helps in the delivery of an excellent storage service for our business users.”

“Storage teams manage storage as a service on a daily basis, whether formally or not,” stated Robert Passmore, Research VP, Gartner, Inc.  “Effective storage service management is based on a reliable understanding of infrastructure elements and a real-time understanding of the dependencies between them.  Given the combined complexity of storage access, replication, redundancy and performance, storage service management is a pre-requisite for achieving success with SLAs, compliance, and ROI initiatives.”

“The challenge to delivering storage services lies in the fact that IT’s view of its storage environment is device-centric,” said Doug McNary, president and CEO of Onaro, Inc.  “Switches, hosts and arrays all have their own configuration elements that can be managed through storage resource management (SRM) applications but these elements alone do not create a storage service. Storage services are created through a combination of devices and the interdependencies among them.  With SANscreen 3, we’re delivering the first globally scalable solution for automatically providing visibility to all storage services.”

Highlights of SANscreen version 3 include new products:

  • SANscreen Application Insight – Performance management for SANs is not new, but delivering this information from a service viewpoint is new. Delivered within context, SANscreen Performance Insight can tie the over or underutilization of a specific storage port back to an applications both in real time and historically. More importantly, the change in performance service levels can be tied to specific configuration or other changes in the environment. The result is improved provisioning, troubleshooting, and utilization for storage administrators.
  • SANscreen Replication Assurance – RPO calculations are critical to any storage team's ability to correctly support business continuity operations. SANscreen Replication Assurance provides a major step forward to a complete RPO dashboard for CIO’s by supporting static RPO configuration information.  A Q2 release of SANscreen Replication Assurance will expand this support to dynamic replication information.

In addition, the core SANscreen Foundation product includes significant enhancements:

  • Support for EMC Enterprise Control Center (ECC) – Agent deployment for all SRM applications is a key first step to a successful deployment. SANscreen 3 accelerates the ability of organizations which choose to deploy EMC ECC by highlighting hosts where no agent has yet been deployed.
  • Service Analytics – Version 3 offers new trend analysis reporting for time to fix service violations; amount and composition of violations; and port and storage capacity. Storage managers can now manage to meaningful service quality statistics as they seek to improve overall service delivery quality.
  • More Scalable Service Intelligence Engine - The core of SANscreen is its Service Intelligence Engine.  In nearly real time, the Service Intelligence Engine can process tens of thousands of bits of information and present it in a scalable fashion that supports thousands of ports.  Version 3 features architecture and design improvements enabling the support of 10,000+ port installations on a single server. In addition, SANscreen 3 now supports continuous change events in the enterprise such as performance monitoring and time based replication.

SANscreen is being used by the world’s largest companies in banking, retail, entertainment, data communications and wireless telecom. Representative customers include AOL, CareGroup Healthcare System, Countrywide Financial Corporation, JetBlue Airways, Priority Healthcare, State Street Global Advisors, and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
