Onaro Chief Scientist to Speak on Eliminating SAN Defects at Storage Networking World Spring 2007

BOSTON, MA – April 10, 2007 – Onaro, Inc., the leader in storage service management (SSM), today announced that Dr. Raphael Yahalom, chief scientist, will speak on “Eliminating SAN Defects – A Business Value Case Study” as part of the Storage Management Track at Storage Networking World Spring 2007 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, California on Thursday, April 19 at 8:30 am.

Storage management teams in companies of all sizes and industries are attempting to implement processes for eliminating various types of defects in their SAN infrastructures. In this presentation, Dr. Yahalom will focus on a few representative organizations as interesting case-studies and describe key aspects of the processes they have implemented and the business value they are deriving.

“Storage outages and application brownouts are rarely caused by a single event or miss-step,” explained Yahalom.  “These application performance issues tend to be the result of a combination of SAN defects that accumulate over time. Detecting and eliminating these defects before they create a service quality issue is a challenge faced by all infrastructure teams. These teams should be aware of the different types of SAN defects that may be a concern; how each type can be prevented or corrected; the processes that can be implemented to achieve that goal; and how the business value of eliminating SAN defects can be assessed and tracked.”

Dr. Raphael Yahalom is the chief-scientist of Onaro.  In this capacity, he works closely with Onaro’s customers and is considered a leader in the storage industry on SAN defect analysis.  Dr. Yahalom also works closely with Onaro’s customers and prospects to analyze systematically and quantifiably the business value of technology solutions.  Prior to co-founding Onaro, Dr. Yahalom was a visiting faculty member at MIT – Sloan school of Management and a faculty member at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), specializing in areas of information technologies, distributing systems, information security, electronic commerce, and risk management.  He also held invited Visiting Scientist appointments at AT&T Bell Labs, Siemens Research Labs, Karlsruhe University (Germany), Cambridge University (UK) and Cornell University, and served as strategic technology advisor to multiple leading corporations.

Dr. Yahalom obtained a PhD in Computer Science from Cambridge University (UK) and a BSc (cum laude) in EECS from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
