Onaro Chief Scientist and Co-Founder to Speak at First Annual Data Protection Summit

BOSTON, MA – March 8, 2007 – Onaro, Inc., the leader in storage service management (SSM), today announced that Dr. Raphael Yahalom, chief scientist, customers-advocate, and co-founder, will speak on a panel entitled “Being Ready for the Unexpected: Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity” at the first annual Data Protection Summit at the Hilton Irvine/Orange County Airport in Irvine, CA on Wednesday, March 14 at 3:00 pm.

As replicated storage environments become the preferred method for disaster recovery, organizations introduce added layers of complexity into their networked storage environment. This complexity increases the likelihood that changes made to the storage environment will jeopardize a successful disaster recovery. Dr. Yahalom’s presentation will discuss vulnerabilities uncovered through the examination of many large replicated storage environments.

“Replication technology is a dramatic step forward from tape-based systems for disaster recovery,” explained Yahalom.  “With this new technology, however, vulnerabilities are introduced that could lead to an unsuccessful disaster recovery event.  The need to independently verify that replication services meet application requirements is critical in these environments.”

As Onaro’s Chief Scientist and Customers Advocate, Dr. Raphael Yahalom directs the long-term technological vision of the company to help drive future growth and competitive advantage. He works closely with Onaro’s customers on business-value measurements and reporting, and on industry thought-leadership activities.  Dr. Yahalom combines expertise in both academic research and innovative applied business solutions.  Prior to co-founding Onaro, Dr. Yahalom was a visiting faculty member at MIT's Sloan School of Management and a faculty member at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specializing in research in areas of information technologies, distributed systems, information security, electronic commerce and risk management. He also held invited visiting scientist appointments at AT&T Bell Labs, Siemens Research Labs, Karlsruhe University (Germany), Cambridge University (UK) and Cornell University. Dr. Yahalom has also worked with large financial organizations on formal analysis and design of operational business processes.

Dr. Yahalom obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cambridge University (UK) and a B.S. (cum laude) in EECS from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
