Service Insight starts working by collecting in an agentless fashion the logical and physical configuration information from the networked storage environments.
Service Insight collects this information in real time, across all major hardware manufacturers. A typical 2000 port datacenter can be mapped in about 8 hours and the update process following the initial mapping is near real time.
Inventory and configuration information is interesting for asset management systems, but an inventory of devices in the SAN tells nothing about the services delivered by the interaction of these devices. SANscreen now takes this device-level information and transforms it to provide a service view of the environment.
