The Planning API enables information on any planned tasks to be exported and used to instantiate an external script (written in Perl, Java, or any other standard language). From discussions with the Onaro customer base, most enterprises have written their own scripts to drive the actual provisioning of resources. These scripts then interface with the device managers to implement an action.
Since the provisioning scripts interact with various systems inside an enterprise IT environment, rather than attempt to replace the scripts, the Provisioning APIs goal is to enable and trigger the right scripts, passing the correct information to enable provisioning.
The result is a streamlined, complete, integrated change process which attains both maximal efficiency resulting from the full automation, and the maximal assurance, control, and high service levels, resulting from the independent validation steps.
Provisioning API enables Onaro customers and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to develop applications on top of the SANscreen change and service repository engine.The API provides read-only access into the information that resides in the SANscreen repository.

The API is based on Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web services. This provides the flexibility to use the API from almost any programming environment, including Java and Perl.
