Analyze Storage Tier Assignments
Many organizations have implemented tiered storage plans. Unfortunately, many application owners over request storage tiers based on perceived performance needs. Application Insight arms storage managers with historical performance and throughput information to validate previously made tier assumptions. By easily identifying low traffic applications that are attached to tier 1 storage, infrastructure teams cam migrate these applications to lower tiers of storage.

In this example, Host Becker has been allocated Tier 1 storage. However, over the past 7 days, its load has been less than 1% of the total distribution of traffic to all hosts. In addition. The absolute value of its traffic is nearly an order of magnitude less than the highest host.

Examining the histogram of port utilization over the past year shows not only that host Becker has had extremely low traffic (MB) over the past 7 days, but that the overall utilization of its switch ports during the past year for 98% of the time has been zero.
Becker is a great candidate for migrating from Tier 1 to Tier 2 storage.
